Brian Welch: Teacher of the Month

Coach Welch is a 2002 graduate of Johnsonville High School and a 2006 graduate of Francis Marion University. Additionally, he earned a master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy. He also earned his National Board Certification in 2012 while teaching at Johnsonville High School. He has taught at JHS since the fall of 2007 and currently teaches government and economics. He sponsors the JHS student council and coaches the varsity golf team. He also is one of the assistant coaches for varsity football. We congratulate Mr. Brian Welch for being chosen as our October Teacher of the Month.

What is the most rewarding part of teaching? Getting to be around the students on a daily basis and seeing them grow and develop as young people

How do you hope your students will remember you? As the teacher who challenged them to think for themselves

What are the two most important qualities that a good teacher should possess?

Patience and a heart for helping young people 

What is a favorite experience from your teaching career? Coaching in a State Championship

What characteristics do you think a good student should have? Why? Initiative and a drive to succeed

What do you like most about teaching at JHS?  Being around students and players that I truly care about
