Renovated JHS Library

Our JHS library recently underwent a total renovation, and students and staff are enjoying the results! Over the summer, all of the books, shelving, and furniture were removed from the library. The library was completely empty! The update included new flooring and a new paint scheme. With everything removed from the library, Mrs. Calcutt took the opportunity to completely rearrange the design and update the shelving and furniture to reflect a more modern style. Mrs. Calcutt said, “I wanted to transition to a learning commons design that would include flexible learning spaces where students and staff would have areas to read, create, collaborate, and share.” The new design includes a computer lab area, instructional area with a touchscreen display, high top tables, collaborative tables, and lounge seating. Additionally, a green screen video production rooms provides an area for students to film and edit the daily news show, “Johnsonville Unplugged.” Another popular area of the library is the “Starbooks Read-A-Latte Café.” Students may earn cappuccinos by reading and reviewing books. Student body president Allissa Young commented, “The new design looks more like a college library, and the new arrangement gives us space to complete a variety of activities.” Mrs. Calcutt would like to thank the administration for supporting the project and Mr. Lee Floyd and his students for assembling the furniture and shelving.
